MSME Tool Room Hyderabad was established by Government of India in 1968 to offer training in the field of tool engineering. Established as a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Project, the faculty of the institution were trained abroad in the area of tool engineering.
Officially known as Central Institute of Tool Design (CITD), the main objectives of the institute are:
- Training of the technical personnel in designing and manufacturing tools, dies and moulds.
- Design and manufacture of dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges, etc.
- Provide advisory services to small scale units including assistance in designing and developing tools for various processes.
- Recommending measures to standardise components for dies, jigs and other tools.
