MSME Chennai is the head office for all MSME – DFO establishments in the state of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory (UT) of Puducherry. The head office is currently focusing on providing support in the fields of credit, marketing, technology and infrastructure to MSMEs.

Responsibilities of MSME Chennai

These are the responsibilities of all MSME DFOs:

  • Improving competitiveness of MSMEs through various MSME certificate courses and training programs
  • Promotion of MSMEs through cluster-based approach
  • Increasing access to MSME loans and other credit options
  • Improve manufacturing base through upgrades to existing technology
  • Provide marketing support
  • Growth and development of all MSMEs including Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) sector and coir Industry.

Currently, “the MSME – Development & Facilitation Office, Chennai and Branch MSME – Development & Facilitation Office at Coimbatore and Madurai, Workshop Centre at Tirunelveli are providing a comprehensive range of facilities and services such as techno-managerial services, training needs, common facility workshop, laboratories, statistical and economic information in the state of Tamil Nadu & UT of Puducherry,” according to the official website of MSME DFO Chennai.

MSME training by MSME DFO

MSME training is mainly conducted by MSME Development Institutes or MSME DIs governed by MSME DFOs. The MSME – Development Institute, Chennai and Branch MSME – Development Institutes at Coimbatore and Madurai, Workshop Centre at Tirunelveli are the DIs established in Tamil Nadu. They guide prospective and existing entrepreneurs in selection of products, processes and machinery, MSME registration, etc.

These training courses are conducted by a team of dedicated and experienced officers in various trades including mechanical, electrical, metallurgy, chemical, food, glass and ceramic, leather, textiles, economics and statistics disciplines.

The training programmes conducted are of five categories:

  1. Industrial Motivation Campaign (IMC) for youth – 1 to 2 days
  2. Industrial Motivation Campaign (IMC) for Cluster – 1 day
  3. Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP)- 2 weeks
  4. Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP)- 6 weeks
  5. Management Development Programme (MDP)- 2 weeks

Under these categories various MSME training programmes are conducted like:

  • Awareness programme on Intellectual Property rights
  • Seminar on export and import policies and procedures
  • Entrepreneurship awareness programme
  • Awareness programme on MSME sustainable Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) scheme
  • Webinar on PPP/GEM/Udyam registration

Unfortunately, the MSME DFO website doesn’t have an online application facility linked to the website itself. However, every training programme listed on the training programme page of the website has an attachment with details of the programme. The document usually contains a link to a registration form which you can fill in and submit online for programme registration.
