How is TMT bar and Mild Steel bar different?  Which is better?

* TMT - Thermo Mechanically Treated

TMT bars are high-strength reinforcement bars with tough exterior and soft interior. MS bars are regular steel bars with low carbon content (not alloy steel).

TMT bars are manufactured through rapid quenching and cooling. MS bars manufactured by heating iron and carbon at above 2600°F temperature.

TMT bars have excellent weldability and bonding with concrete. MS bars can be welded (with precaution at weld joins) and has less bonding strength.

TMT bars have higher tensile strength, ductility, earthquake resistance. MS bars have lower tensile strength and not for high-stress applications.

TMT bars are highly corrosion resistant (due to quenching) and doesn’t form rust. Mild steel bars are less resistant to corrosion.

TMT bars used for construction of bridges, dams, high-rise buildings. MS bars used for manufacturing, light structural applications (low yield strength).
